Self-Improvement: Changing You

If you’re going to change your life well, you’re going to have to… change your life! If there’s something wrong in your life, career, business, relationships, finances or health at the moment, continually doing the same things is going to change nothing. This is the essence of personal development. If you’re experiencing pain of any kind in your life at the moment, you’re going to have to take action and do something different. There’s no point in banging your head repeatedly off a brick wall. And, do you know what happens when you stop banging your head off that brick wall? The pain goes away!

Real action is required by you, yourself, if you want your life to change – didn’t you know that God helps those that help themselves? And,believe it or not, normal people have a real problem when it comes to taking real action. Research proves that the normal life is reactive – it is dictated in an automatic repetitive manner by the subconscious mind – no real action is ever taken. Of course, the fact that your daily life if dictated subconsciously means that you’re totally unaware of it. In fact, normal people are unaware, full stop! You go through your day unaware of who you’re actually talking to, unaware of what is actually going on and, most importantly, unaware of the opportunities to change your life that are staring you in the face. Research shows that the normal person is only paying 1% attention.

So, if you want some aspect of your life to change for the better, you’re going to have to stop what you’re doing and reflect. Firstly, you need to know what you want out of life – you need to have some kind of outcome in mind. More important than that, however, you have to do that stopping and reflecting a few times throughout each day. Just stop what you’re doing and analyse how you feel and what you’re thinking. If you don’t feel on top of the world or if you’re dwelling on self-defeating thoughts, then you’re creating your own drama. Actually, this is how the normal mundane life is actually self-created.

You’re going to have to develop a different state of mind. Not a positive mental attitude – that could well simply set you up for even more hardship. You’re going to have to experience what it’s like to have a clear and present state of mind. And the only way you can do that is to train yourself to be clear and present at a quiet time during the day, preferably early on in the day. Find somewhere quiet, where you won’t be disturbed, sit down and close your eyes – has someone turned up the volume! They haven’t of course – it’s just that your mind is focused, you are present and you’re paying attention. This is the clear and present state of mind in which you can begin to take real action to change your life.
