Procrastinators have a personality disorder that falls into 'avoidant'. they can fill their lives with excuses, delay rationalising by long winded excuse the whys and wherefores till they are blue in the face, fill lists of tasks of minutae tasks, concentrate on the detail always missing the bigger picture and deliberatly refuse to prioritise the most important tasks to the top of the list, indeed they may even create a life of odd lies to acheive all this even backing themselves into corners where finally they have 'no choice' options in the end.
All this said this can all be easily rectified BUT only if you want to

You are going to have to start getting serious
I mean really serious about how you organise your 24 hrs
Even the Prime Minister has only 24 hrs .

Get a diary, get charts, get coloured pens, get your noggin switched on

Set a DAY 1 to start this new regime
Make sure you are realistic make time for shopping for food, housework, cooking and cleaning, travel time, visiting friends as well as lectures study, library, research, reading and essay, presentation time.

SLEEP is vital and so go to bed before 12. That means get into jammies at 10 pm, do reading and taking notes at night. Lights out 12.

If you start to veer off course in week 2/3 then find yourself someone with the personality disorder 'compulsive/obsessive' you'll recognise them as they're up to date with all their course reading, dead neat notes, books matching, note books stacked in size order, pages turned over neatly, margins 2" each side, library books ordered 4 wks in advance........then ask for some tips.

Good Luck

i've personally come to the point where i schedule my homework assignments on a monthly calender that i print out from microsoft office word, and any word processing software will provide a calender template of some sort.

to schedule the homework time and study time has meaning in that it is part of the plan for the day, each day of the month, just like a dr appt or any other important appointment.

we need to put our priorities in order to succeed in school, and making a calender that I can visually keep track of my progress and time management is essential for me.

red for december, brown for november, gold for october.....

your style, your schedule, your success!!

It's not easy but when it comes to the point it could cause self loathing I get busy cause that is a feeling i do not want therefore I tell myself "there is nothing to do but to do it" and get on it !

I need help on getting rid of procrastination myself. I've been using the internet way too often, and I end up not doing my homework or I stay up way too late, depreciating my hours of sleep. Now, I'm kind of cleansing myself, little by little. First, be aware of what makes you procrastinate? Second, try to keep yourself away from the thing that makes you procrastinate. It doesn't have to be abrupt, just spend less time on it. Third, think of your low grades when you're at home and how it could worsen and affect your future, so you'll become more concentrated on homework.

stop thinking and start doing. Don't give yourself time to think about it, study right after each class, that is your job. I used to think about exercising a lot. I would wake up before work and think "should I go exercising?" as I got ready for work and sometimes even at work exercise would cross my mind. I admired the people who did it, but I put it off. If I had exercised as much as I *thought* about exercising I would be a great athlete by now.

Then one day, I said I think I will stop listening to so much music and go exercise. This is how it started for me, and how you can get on top of your goals too. I am not a world class athlete, but I am in shape now, and don't fantasize about exercising or feel guilty anymore. That gave me back my pride and also gave me more energy to do other stuff.

I was 220 pounds before, if I can get on top of that huge and dangerous problem you can add a bit of study time to your schedule.

You could buy a timer and just use that to structure your time. Just remember consistency is key. Adjust your expectations, let go of perfectionism and guilt and let yourself become the person you know you were meant to be :)

8 Steps to defeat procrastination:

1.Pick one area in which you find procrastination most annoying (homework, studying for tests)
2.Begin small and progress as you experience success. Be patient. Establish your own deadlines. Be realistic in setting a timetable.
3.Break the project into smaller parts. Chip away at it in small bites. Don’t wait for that “big chunk” of time.
4.Set a definite beginning time. Yuu must break the inertia of inactivity. If getting started is especially troublesome, set a time for 10 or 15 minutes. Commit yourself to doing something on the project until the timer rings. Then you can decide whether to stop or continue. Chances are you will gain momentum and continue after the timer stops. If not, try another 10 minutes later in the day.
5.Do the most important things first. Avoid the distractions of the trivial and routine tasks when a higher priority job is waiting in the wings. Examining each task in light of your goals will help you set priorities.
6.Reward yourself for completing parts of a major task. It may be something as a 10-minute walk, a Coke, or a call. Contract with yourself for a big reward for completion of important tasks. A pizza, sleeping extra late on a weekend, or shopping for something may help motivate you to complete the job. Be nice to yourself.
7.Avoid perfectionism. Excellence is a sufficient level of performance for most things in life, and for many tasks (a new hobby, cleaning your room) adequacy is all that is necessary. Give yourself permission to be less than perfect. A good garden may have some weeds. You might double the amount of time spent typing a paper, attempting to get the spelling perfect. Could that extra time be better spent in another activity which will better help your grades? Probably so.
8.Procrastination is a learned habit, and can supplanted with a more constructive habit, giving your greater control over your life. If procrastination has limited your achievements, do something about it now!

you should say "I was going to write a speech, but I procrastinated it"

just kidding, make up some examples. If you're writing about is in general, you could describe how to fix the problem, how it can start, etc. Good Luck with it.
