A client asked me last week “What would you have left to talk about if you took gossip out of the conversation?” Nice question! – because most of us spend a large part of our time gossiping. It might be about little “harmless” things, like the neighbours’ behaviour, how someone down the road was caught with someone else’s wife, how the guy next door was caught drink-driving, or how one of our children’s schoolmates got drunk. Most of us, to a greater or lesser extent, delight in gossip – particularly if it involves someone else falling on their face.

But stop to think about it for a moment, none of it is harmless. Actually, it’s harmful. First of all, it directs our energy towards the negative. More importantly, it deprives us of the energy that we need to do what we’re supposed to be doing – right here, right now. It messes up your own personal effectiveness.

I think everyone knows the saying that what goes around comes around – step onto that particular “sorry-go-round” at your peril! We’re all familiar with the concept that you reap what you sow – same thing. These are eternal truths proved correct by modern science – quantum physics. Energy in : energy out! Invest your energy in crap – and your life will be little more than crappy itself. Revel in other’s misfortune and you’re setting the scene for misfortune yourself. Buddhists might call it the wheel of karma – a scientist might simply say that is’s energy responding to energy.

Actually, that’s the most important aspect of just how negatively negative gossip can affect the gossiper. If you’re wasting your energy in talking crap, you have immediately reduced the time and energy available to you to do the really important things that you have to do today. You don’t need to be a mathematician to calculate that time wasted on crap reduces the amount of time for the things you have to do. And, yet, I come across lots of people who complain that they simply don’t have enough hours in the day to get everything done!

Cut out the crap – stop wasting your time delighting in bad news. Stop reading the crap in newspapers (don’t get me wrong, we all have to keep up with what’s happening in the world – but we don’t have to wallow in the “news” about rape, assault, murder and so-called normal people generally behaving badly). Stop channel-hopping – immersing yourself in the “reality TV” that brings road accidents, car chases, and real crime into your living room. That’s got nothing to do with reality – reality is to be found in the wonder of this here and now. Focus your mind – why not start talking about all the good stuff, talking about how good people are, swapping nice stories instead of competing with each other at the water-cooler for who can tell the most depressing story – about someone being mugged, cars being stolen, people with serious illness. Seriously, all you have to do is earwig the conversations that are going on around you all the time to get a feel for what I’m talking about. Negative energy contributes to a negative world – stress, worry, anxiety, violence and war. Every drop of “negative” deepens the sea of negativity.

Stop it. Grow up. Focus on the good stuff. Not only will you feel better – not only will a few people around you feel better for it too – you’ll be more upbeat and focused to wholeheartedly do what really needs to be done today. You might just change your life.

Do you have enough time to do all the things that you really should be doing today? Are you a slave to others’ demands at work? Are you trying to juggle job and family and finding that you’re getting neither done properly? Are you one of these people who has to take home work at the weekend to “catch up”? Need a little help with time management?

A huge problem with the modern pace of life is that we don’t seem to have enough hours in the day to get everything done. One of the most frequent questions that I am asked, when I propose that people slow down and give themselves the space to be inspired is “are you really suggesting that I slow down when there are already not enough hours in the day?” Yes, I am – you and I need to give ourselves more time to do the important things and let the things that we shouldn’t do just pass us by. How much time are you wasting on stuff that should never get your attention? How many emails do you read that should be trashed? Do you enjoy feeling important because of the number of emails that you have to deal with?

Many years ago before email, a good friend, a top executive, went through a difficult divorce leaving him with sole custody of two young children – he decided that they were his Number One priority. He telephoned his Directors and told them that he wouldn’t be in for three months! Three months later, he came back to an office piled high with paper, left the office again, returned with a roll of trash bags and threw out every single thing! Of everything in that room, only one issue came back to bite! The moral of the story – he wasted most of his time on things that did not require his attention.

So, we’re expert at allowing others waste our time, we’re experts at wasting our own time. How much time do you waste gossiping – the sort where you revel in others’ misfortune? OK, chit-chat is useful – we often learn important things at the water cooler that we’d otherwise never find out. But negative gossip wastes your time. How much time do you waste wallowing in the bad news in the newspapers? How much time do you waste surfing the ‘net? Do you channel-hop at night? Are you wasting time thinking negative thoughts, worrying, imagining the worst? How much time do you spend bitching about colleagues or jockeying for position in your job instead of doing the job you’re paid to do?

Cut out the crap and you’ll find that you’ve got lots of time to do the important stuff – with some left over to do some of the things that really turn you on. How will you know what’s crap and what isn’t? A focused mind is sharp as a razor’s edge – it knows the difference between something worth doing and all the other crap. A clear and present mind is the one sure way of ensuring that, not only do you cut out the crap, but that, while you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing, you’re wholeheartedly doing it.

And when you’ve realized what needs doing, just do those things – one thing at a time, one moment at a time. You life is made up of moments – each moment a unique opportunity to fully do what you’re doing, to fully focus and to disregard the people and distractions that divert you from the opportunity of now. The opportunity? To live life to the full, be fully present, be more effective, more productive and more excited. When you do that, not only will you get all the important things done, you might just discover that there are even more important things that the universe can do for you.

It’s bizarre the number of people who swear by the benefits of Positive Thinking but have very little to show for it. Of course, positive thinking is far better than negative thinking, but it is nevertheless just thinking – and most of the thinking that we do exercises our conscious mind, that small part of our mind that plays little or no part in the creation of our everyday lives. Rather, it is our programmed subconscious mind that creates our automatic behaviour as a result of which our version of reality unfolds before our very eyes. It is our subconscious that creates stress, anxiety and the fear of taking the brave and courageous decisions that we need to often take if we are, indeed, to follow up on our positive thinking. Of course, the kind of decisions that I’m talking about are only “brave” or “courageous” to normal, crazy people.

Even though positive thinking is better than the negative alternative, thinking stops doing. Or worse, recent work in the US indicates that positive thinking has blinded otherwise well-informed business people from the obvious pitfalls of pursuing a certain course of action – senior figures in the banking world get a particular mention! That aside, at very best, too much thinking is a dangerous thing.

If you really wanted to pursue the route of Personal Development, you would be far better of trying a little positive doing! So, having prioritized the things that are truly important to your success and happiness, actually doing just the important things that need to be done to achieve your goals, to Change Your Life or, indeed, to play the perfect game of golf – if that is what turns you on! If you have financial worries or your business is suffering as a result of the economic downturn, if you feel inadequate in certain business or social situations, if your relationship is in difficulties or if your health is deteriorating, if you hate your job or hate your life – you have got to take action. By action I mean real action, not the normal automatic reaction that makes things worse rather than better and, indeed, not more of the same. If you want something different in your business, career or life, you’ve got to do something different – thinking about it will not only get you nowhere, it may actually convince you to take no action at all.

But, how will you know what positive action needs to be taken, what doing needs to be done? Well, you can’t do anything without a clear and present mind. Too often we are paralysed for want of stepping back from the perceived mess in which we find ourselves, too often the normal mind is too muddled – and positive thinking may actually muddle it more. To embark on the correct positive action, you need to take one step back from all your cares, worries and frustrations. You need to take or make a few minutes each day to experience the reality of the here and now. You need to come to your senses – you have five of them, it’s time that you used them. In doing so, you will be more present which, in turn, means that you will have presence – the hallmark of all great positive doers.

Procrastination can really be hard. If you are suffering from it you need to read this guide to overcoming procrastination!

Do The Hardest and Toughest Jobs First.

By doing this your self-esteem will be boosted, and you will feel like you have achieved something. This will also have the roll on effect that other tasks will seem pretty easy to do.

When making a to-do list, make sure you follow everything you’ve written chronologically by listing the most important things to be done on top and ticking them off as you go along. Not only will this be more organized but it will be easier for you to follow and focus on what’s next rather than choosing what you think you should do on the list.

The Right Time and Right Mood Will Never Happen. Accept It!

There is no point hanging out to be in the right mood, or the right time to happen. Waiting around for this “special time” or “special mood” is a hindrance to your productivity!

Perfectionism is not Perfect.

Self-esteem is tantamount to a job well done. But some people go to the extent of constantly postponing or delaying work because they feel they are not the best. This will not help with overcoming procrastination!

Perfectionists give themselves a hard time trying to get something done in the most flawless way. They give themselves unrealistic deadlines. Negatively assess their outcomes. This mentality hinders people from getting actual work done. Perfectionists perform poorly because they constantly obsess about messing up.

Ironically – the best performers aren’t perfectionists. Why? because they get the job done rather than obsess over messing it up.

If you suffer from being a perfectionist, reassess you priorities. Take small brave steps. Create an action plan with realistic deadlines. The key to doing your best is to start really early. That way you give yourself plenty of time to review your work and spot errors. By maintaining a fresh and relaxed attitude, you are able to give your best.

Create Momentum.

Get up and start moving. This alone should help you snap out of your procrastination. Why? Because doing something (particularly physical) helps you to increase efficiency. And one you get up it is easier to keep moving.

Go for a walk whenever you can. Clean your desk and get rid of clutter. This creates a forward motion that will keep things going. Doing something rather than slacking builds momentum and jump-starts you up for your project.

Procrastination is not just something we chose to do from time to time. Some people actually suffer from it leading to chronic depression from lack of self-worth. If you are trying to overcome this, be realistic in your goals. Forget about getting a quick-fix. The only way to be successful in getting rid of this behavior is to develop a routine that works for you.

If you are currently a smoker, quitting the habit could be one of the most important things you will ever do in the next part of your life. In fact, if you quit now, you will most likely be adding seven years to your life.

While many people try to quit and fail, it is not an impossible task. Thousands of people, just like you, have decided to quit and have succeeded. You too can be among the successful former-smokers. Here are six tips that will help you to quit smoking once and for all:

1. Make a vow that you are going to quit smoking from today onwards

Success in all spheres of life begins with firm determination. If you are wishy-washy you can never do anything. However, if you make up your mind, once and for all, that you are giving up the habit, whenever a craving comes, you will remember your vow and not give in.

2. Exercise more and get your body in shape

If you sit idle there is more chance that you will light up your cigarette and relax. Fill your spare time with sports and vigorous activity. Try to feel how good it is to get your blood circulating and breathing the air deeply. If you are not the athletic type, then brisk walking will have the same benefit as other kinds of sports.

3. Avoid places and pastimes that put you within reach of cigarettes

If going to a bar or pub means that you are going to have a drink and then light up, maybe it is better to avoid that place for the time being. Once you have truly stopped smoking and you feel how good it is, you can go anywhere and not be tempted. But while you are in the transition phase it is better to carefully choose where you will spend your recreational time.

4. If you have to put something in your mouth, drink water or eat healthy snacks

Whenever you get a desire to put a cigarette in your mouth, replace it with something that will help you rather than harm you. Drinking small amounts of water throughout the day is not only a good way to help you quit smoking, but it is also a great way to stay healthy. You should drink 4 litres (quarts) of water per day, if you can. If you need to put something solid in your mouth, then eat a piece of fruit.

5. Get support from your friends and family

Tell them that you are giving up smoking for health reasons. Your true friends will support you and not offer you cigarettes. Your family and loved ones will similarly support your efforts and help you to avoid situations where you may feel obliged to smoke out of social pressure.

6. Strengthen your will power with yoga and meditation

Very few people are born with perfect will-power. Like anything else, practice makes perfect. If you want to strengthen a physical muscle you may work out with weights. If you want to strengthen your “mental muscle” you need exercise as well. Yoga and meditation are disciplines that enable even complete beginners to build up their capacity to concentrate and firmly accomplish whatever they set out to do. Try it out and see for yourself.

Follow these six tips and you will be well on your way to quitting smoking.

“Stylist Fashion” – Life is like a road. There are long and short roads; smooth and rocky roads; crooked and straight paths. In our life many roads would come our way as we journey through life. There are roads that lead to a life of single blessedness, marriage, and religious vocation. There are also roads that lead to fame and fortune on one hand, or isolation and poverty on the other. There are roads to happiness as there are roads to sadness, roads towards victory and jubilation, and roads leading to defeat and disappointment.

Just like any road, there are corners, detours, and crossroads in life. Perhaps the most perplexing road that you would encounter is a crossroad. With four roads to choose from and with limited knowledge on where they would go, which road will you take? What is the guarantee that we would choose the right one along the way? Would you take any road, or just stay where you are: in front of a crossroad?

There are no guarantees.

You do not really know where a road will lead you until you take it. There are no guarantees. This is one of the most important things you need to realize about life. Nobody said that choosing to do the right thing all the time would always lead you to happiness. Loving someone with all your heart does not guarantee that it would be returned. Gaining fame and fortune does not guarantee happiness. Accepting a good word from an influential superior to cut your trip short up the career ladder is not always bad, especially if you are highly qualified and competent. There are too many possible outcomes, which your really cannot control. The only thing you have power over is the decisions that you will make, and how you would act and react to different situations.

Wrong decisions are always at hindsight.

Had you known that you were making a wrong decision, would you have gone along with it? Perhaps not, why would you choose a certain path when you know it would get you lost? Why make a certain decision if you knew from the very beginning that it is not the right one. It is only after you have made a decision and reflected on it that you realize its soundness. If the consequences or outcomes are good for you, then you have decided correctly. Otherwise, your decision was wrong.

Take the risk: decide.

Since life offers no guarantee and you would never know that your decision would be wrong until you have made it, then you might as well take the risk and decide. It is definitely better than keeping yourself in limbo. Although it is true that one wrong turn could get you lost, it could also be that such a turn could be an opportunity for an adventure, moreover open more roads. It is all a matter of perspective. You have the choice between being a lost traveller or an accidental tourist of life. But take caution that you do not make decisions haphazardly. Taking risks is not about being careless and stupid. Here are some pointers that could help you choose the best option in the face of life’s crossroads:
·	Get as many information as you can about your situation.

You cannot find the confidence to decide when you know so little about what you are faced with. Just like any news reporter, ask the 5 W’s: what, who, when, where, and why. What is the situation? Who are the people involved? When did this happen? Where is this leading? Why are you in this situation? These are just some of the possible questions to ask to know more about your situation. This is important. Oftentimes, the reason for indecision is the lack of information about a situation.

·	Identify and create options.

What options do the situation give you? Sometimes the options are few, but sometimes they are numerous. But what do you do when you think that the situation offers no options? This is the time that you create your own. Make your creative mind work. From the most simplistic to the most complicated, entertain all ideas. Do not shoot anything down when an idea comes to your head. Sometimes the most outrageous idea could prove to be the right one in the end. You can ask a friend to help you identify options and even make more options if you encounter some difficulty, but make sure that you make the decision yourself in the end.

·	Weigh the pros and cons of every option.

Assess each option by looking at the advantages and disadvantages it offers you. In this way, you get more insights about the consequences of such an option.

·	Trust yourself and make that decision.

Now that you have assessed your options, it is now time to trust yourself. Remember that there are no guarantees and wrong decisions are always at hindsight. So choose… decide… believe that you are choosing the best option at this point in time.

Now that you have made a decision, be ready to face its consequences: good and bad. It may take you to a place of promise or to a land of problems. But the important thing is that you have chosen to live your life instead of remaining a bystander or a passive audience to your own life. Whether it is the right decision or not, only time can tell. But do not regret it whatever the outcome. Instead, learn from it and remember that you always have the chance to make better decisions in the future. “Diamond Fact“
