How often have we heard others talk about how ‘intelligent’ they consider someone to be? Intelligence is a description of how good someone is at mentally doing something. Intelligence involves thought. Intelligence includes the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend ideas and language and to learn.

Do you consider yourself to be intelligent?

Schools and the education system would have us believe that we are only intelligent if we are able to solve complex abstract problems or remember facts and figures. I would agree that this is a type of intelligence and this type of intelligence is normally referred to as IQ or ‘intelligence quotient’ (a phrase coined by an American psychologist named Lewis Terman).

A small proportion of the population has a high IQ and they find the academic type of learning and activities in school relatively easy. But the vast majority of people don’t. So where does that leave everyone else?

Well, the good news is that IQ is not a measure of success. Most people with a high IQ do not go on to be as successful as their IQ score may lead us to believe. Most people with a high IQ take reasonably well paid, but routine, employment. Most are not happy with risk and rather limit their own success by becoming ‘comfortable’ and fall far short of what their potential suggests.

There is another type of intelligence that may be more important to success in life and this has been publicised by the best-selling book “Emotional Intelligence” (or EQ) by Daniel Goleman (although the term was first used several years earlier by two academics – Mayer and Salovey).

EQ has to do with recognizing, understanding, and choosing how we think, feel, and act. It shapes our interactions with others and our understanding of ourselves. It defines how and what we learn; it allows us to set priorities; it determines the majority of our daily actions.

EQ is the capacity to create positive outcomes in our relationships with ourselves and others. These learnable skills create joy, love, and success of all kinds.

Studying EQ it becomes clear that IQ has less to do with success in life than EQ. The good news is that we all have EQ and that it can be developed. We can develop our EQ to help us build our relationships with others, to use our emotions appropriately, to focus our efforts and to become more successful in life.

EQ may be so important that it could be the best predictor of who will succeed in any area of life.

Can we look beyond IQ and EQ?

When you look at the world, do you see only space and time, mass and energy, logic and reason? Or do you also see connectivity and design, purpose and meaning, faith and mystery?

In his book “What’s your SQ?” Michael Guillen has developed the idea of ‘spiritual intelligence’ or SQ. SQ considers your views beyond the materialistic living of modern life. Without spirituality it is possible to become very unhappy or dissatisfied with life no matter how much material possessions we accumulate.

Can you be successful if you are not truly happy? I would argue not and that a balance of IQ, EQ and SQ are necessary for a happy and successful life.

Are there any other forms of intelligence? Yes, there is another important theory on multiple intelligences and you can read about that in another article.

To be happy and successful in life focus on your EQ and SQ. If you are fortunate enough to have some IQ too then all the better – but don’t rely on your IQ alone.

IQ test means Intelligence Quotient, with the help of IQ tests intelligence test you can measure your ability of your work in any field, if you get high IQ level in IQ intelligence test that means there is chances of highly complex jobs.

Having a job can be a stressful pursuit. Many people waste too much time merely thinking about their job. Repeatedly, your job consumes you that it becomes a portion of your daily existence and you are liable to lose priorities on other actions. However, every one of these are owing to incorrect time management.

The problems

Without suitable time management, you may perhaps be facing a lot of stress. You have to bear in mind that productivity does not merely signify doing a number of things. You have to create a balance in these activities and make certain each are properly done. When you have so much to think of, you are very much liable to be unsuccessful in accomplishing your deadline or you could plan more than one meeting at the same time. This could lead to lower efficiency and heaps of time wasted. While you may not lose your job in the development, you may simply give up other facets of your life.

The answer

Time management might help inhibit such procedures from occurring. This is for the reason that you won’t have to be anxious about things when you program your events properly. You get lots of stress relief and a great deal of time to prioritize your life.

On the other hand, successful time management is somewhat difficult. You have got to integrate a little self-discipline in order to set up your events properly. You also have to be more flexible with your goals and priorities. These basics are easy to attain. You merely need to learn the essential concepts to enable you to set things in motion.

Good time management creates a few of the most potent rewards inside and outside your job field. Seeing as all these difficulties stem from pressure, the chief benefit of time management is the reduction of worry. You doubtless have experienced chasing deadlines or suddenly realizing that you arranged two meetings on the same date. You can prevent such a development from happening if you perform a clear time management plan and a timetable for your activities.

Through having a clear plan, you offer yourself the opportunity to establish a great schedule that complements your intended activities both in and out of the job. Moreover, you avoid compromising the most important facet of all your activities: your health.

One more good thing about getting a successful time management program is having a greater possibility of finishing everything on time. When you lose a deadline, you fall out of favor with your boss. This leads to extra demands to conclude other tasks and even to beat your other colleagues. This contributes to a lot of avoidable anxiety that could cause you to expand your work outside the office only to keep up. It might even mean that you will fetch your job to the dinner table.

And the worse that might happen, you get so harassed that you infect the worry to your family members. The quicker you finish your tasks, the more you free yourself of all the pressure.

The greatest thing regarding a time management program is that you get the probability to live your life on a suitable routine. Your working timetable is not swamped and so you can allow sufficient time for relaxing and having fun. And regardless of of your frantic schedule, never forget to relax from time to time as it helps you become more prolific.

Procrastination can really be hard. If you are suffering from it you need to read this guide to overcoming procrastination!

Do The Hardest and Toughest Jobs First.

By doing this your self-esteem will be boosted, and you will feel like you have achieved something. This will also have the roll on effect that other tasks will seem pretty easy to do.

When making a to-do list, make sure you follow everything you’ve written chronologically by listing the most important things to be done on top and ticking them off as you go along. Not only will this be more organized but it will be easier for you to follow and focus on what’s next rather than choosing what you think you should do on the list.

The Right Time and Right Mood Will Never Happen. Accept It!

There is no point hanging out to be in the right mood, or the right time to happen. Waiting around for this “special time” or “special mood” is a hindrance to your productivity!

Perfectionism is not Perfect.

Self-esteem is tantamount to a job well done. But some people go to the extent of constantly postponing or delaying work because they feel they are not the best. This will not help with overcoming procrastination!

Perfectionists give themselves a hard time trying to get something done in the most flawless way. They give themselves unrealistic deadlines. Negatively assess their outcomes. This mentality hinders people from getting actual work done. Perfectionists perform poorly because they constantly obsess about messing up.

Ironically – the best performers aren’t perfectionists. Why? because they get the job done rather than obsess over messing it up.

If you suffer from being a perfectionist, reassess you priorities. Take small brave steps. Create an action plan with realistic deadlines. The key to doing your best is to start really early. That way you give yourself plenty of time to review your work and spot errors. By maintaining a fresh and relaxed attitude, you are able to give your best.

Create Momentum.

Get up and start moving. This alone should help you snap out of your procrastination. Why? Because doing something (particularly physical) helps you to increase efficiency. And one you get up it is easier to keep moving.

Go for a walk whenever you can. Clean your desk and get rid of clutter. This creates a forward motion that will keep things going. Doing something rather than slacking builds momentum and jump-starts you up for your project.

Procrastination is not just something we chose to do from time to time. Some people actually suffer from it leading to chronic depression from lack of self-worth. If you are trying to overcome this, be realistic in your goals. Forget about getting a quick-fix. The only way to be successful in getting rid of this behavior is to develop a routine that works for you.

Try reading some procrastination quotes as well!

We live in a BUSY world, people! We do not live in an era where you can kick back and enjoy your life, or reap the rewards of your hard work over the years. There is too much to do! No matter what happens, keep your nose to the grindstone, keep charging forward with everything that you’ve got, and never, EVER, take any time for yourself!

There are many responsibilities that each of us has, and just to make sure that we have our priorities straight, let’s go over some of the big ones:

• Your Job – You fill a position at work that couldn’t possibly be filled by anyone else! The company that you work for was barely getting by before you came along, and it is very likely that they will collapse immediately if you don’t drop everything and tend to every single situation that arises there.

Disregard the fact that work-related stress, commute time, and other job-related issues are the cause of countless emotional and physical problems in our society, and that you would be much happier if you backed off on your resolve to be “the best” at work. In fact, try working MORE hours each week!

• Your Family – You have a spouse or significant other, and responsibility for the children under your roof. Forget the fact that your spouse or significant other is perfectly capable of handling just as much responsibility as you are, and that you should be teaching the kids from DAY ONE to do as much as they possibly can for themselves.

If you don’t take care of these people, who will? Heaven forbid they should actually have to lift a finger to help themselves, or they should have to deal with life’s many issues without you there to coddle them and “make it all okay”. Give up your own needs completely, and ask your family if there is MORE that you can do to make their life just a little bit easier!

• Housework – Oh, here is a good one! I once heard that if you got out of bed in the morning and didn’t make that bed up nice and tight that the Bed Clothes Monster would get in there and gobble you up the next night while you were sleeping.

I also heard that – when left unchecked – Dust Bunnies can grow to the size of small predatory animals, and that your own cats, dogs, goldfish and parakeets would certainly meet an untimely demise if those pesky Dust Bunnies weren’t eradicated AT LEAST once a week!

In fact, go ahead and hire a maid, but then follow the maid around to make sure the work gets done properly. Then you are spending more money, but still not saving yourself any time.

• Yard Work – Again, if you leave these types of tasks for too long without tending to them, it could be pure anarchy! The grass might grow 2 whole inches because you didn’t mow it on Sunday, the dandelions would most certainly stage an organized revolt, and going one week without weeding your garden will spell disaster for everything that you are growing there.

Try cutting your lawn with a pair of scissors instead of a lawn mower. That way you will make sure the job is getting done right, and you can get face to face with those rebellious dandelions and let them know that YOU are in charge!

• Social Events – Everyone needs friends, right? You are no different, and you should feel 100% obligated to attend every single social event suggested by every person in your circle of influence. Whether it be a mixer with the people at work, drinks with your closest buddies at the local tavern, a wine and cheese picnic with the latest girl/guy you are courting, or a full-blown “run naked in the streets” party, you MUST attend!

After all, if you don’t attend every single social event that comes across your calendar, you might be labeled as a person who actually has a life and a personality, and who doesn’t have to spend all of their free time with other people. In fact, you might – GASP! – attract MORE people to your circle by such individualistic behavior!

So, the moral of the story – DON’T YOU DARE TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF! As you can see from the above examples, doing so will surely cause the sky to fall, reverse the laws of physics, and cause a huge rift in the space/time continuum – all because of you!

Trust me, you don’t want that kind of madness on your conscious…

Having a hard time fulfilling the time management methods you imposed on yourself? Do you still feel that you are rushing and being stressed too much because of failure to abide by the time management rules you set out on abiding?

Well, that is not uncommon. Most people, especially students require sometime in honing their time management skills. Likewise, setting dogmatic time management rules for yourself that you expect to fulfill to the letter is not the proper way to go about organizing your time.

Here are tips that you can easily follow:

1. Count all your time as time to be used and be satisfied out of every moment.

2. Find something to enjoy in whatever you do.

3. Stop regretting your failures and start learning from your mistakes.

4. Remind yourself, “There is always enough time for the important things.” If it is important, you should be able to make time to do it.

5. Continuously look for ways of freeing up your time.

6. Try to use waiting time¬¬-review notes or do practice problems.

7. Keep a paper calendar with you and paper where you can jot down the things you have to do or notes to yourself.

8. Examine and revise your lifetime goals on a monthly basis and be sure to include progress towards those goals on a daily basis.

9. Always keep those long-term goals in mind. Put up reminders in your home or office about your goals.

10. Plan your day each morning or the night before and set priorities for yourself.

11. Maintain and develop a list of specific things to be done each day, set your priorities and the get the most important ones done sooner in the day as is possible. Evaluate your progress at the end of the day briefly.

12. Look ahead in your month and try to anticipate what is going to happen so you can better schedule your time.
.
13. Follow the age-old rules of doing first things first.

14. Be confident about yourself in your judgment of priorities and stick to them no matter what.

15. When you catch yourself procrastinating-ask yourself, “What am I avoiding?”

16. Start with the most difficult parts of projects, and then when you have done your worst, you may find you do not have to do all the other small tasks.

17. Catch yourself when you are involved in unproductive projects and stop as soon as you can.

18. Find time to concentrate on high priority items or activities.

19. Concentrate on one thing at a time.

20. Put your efforts in areas that provide long-term benefits.

21. Push yourself and be persistent, especially when you know you are doing well.

22. Think on paper when possible-it makes it easier to review and revise.

23. Be sure and set deadlines for yourself whenever possible.

24. Delegate responsibilities whenever possible.

25. Ask for advice when needed.

In putting some of the ideas given in this enumeration to practice, you can use a time management sheet for students. You can go to book supply stores for these pre-formatted time management sheet forms. You can get a blank sheet, online, too. Most probably, universities and college institutions have their own format of time management sheets for their students.

You can also make one. You online need a large sheet of paper, rulers and a marker or ball pen. You can put in a neat row of the important things you need to do and the least important ones, against the each day of the week when you are expected to finish it up or start out.

Once you have your own student time management sheet, in whatever method as mentioned, you can jot down and plan your daily, weekly or monthly schedule.

You can complete filling up your Planned Schedule in once you can get a complete summary of the time-use chart and of course, your school’s syllabus and student calendar where you will find all the necessary student activities that would involve you whether you like it, or not.

Use your time management sheet as your very own personal activity calendar. While improving or adding items to it, think about how you want to use your time for studying, reading, and recreating. Try a given schedule for a week or two and readjust if you think it is called-for.

We all know how crazy college activities could get at a certain point in time. What with classes, conferences, and researches, there is no wonder that some are hopelessly stressed out and confused and gets their priorities all mixed up. There are also those who balance a part-time job while attending college.

Still, others have to balance out their studies with extra-curricular and civic activities. Of course, you also need to spend time with old and new friends and attend social activities with them.

All these things are actually part of the activities a college students need to contend with. Organizing your time in order to successfully accomplish your college degree and still do all the other responsibilities is a feat you need to master.

First, you need to know how valuable each time of the day is and how to use it well according to your activities in college. There is a well-told story in Steven Covey’s “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” which has a profound tale of how to use your time well.

The story tells of a guy or a professor of some sort who stood in front of a class holding a big jar, which he placed with big rocks. After filling it up with big rocks, he asked the class if it is full and most said yes.

Then, he got smaller rocks and put them in the big jar too, along with the big ones. The smaller rocks, of course fit in the jar. After which, he again asked if the jar is already full. Still, most in the class said yes. Quite suspiciously, others said it seems full and others expressed their affirmation guardedly.

After their reply, the professor produced a bag of sand and poured it into the jar, too. The sand, of course filled out all the tinier spaces between the big and small rocks. After emptying the bag of sand unto the jar, he again asks if it is already full. The class, already quite dubious, said sure it is full.

Whether the man is not satisfied, or is going on proving his point, he got out a glass of water, which really did seeped up into the sand and ranks and finally filled up the jar.

After this, he asks, what the moral of the story is. The class, thinking that they have spotted the trick, replied quite smartly that the moral of the story is that “you can always squeeze a bit more in.”

But, the man quickly pointed out that the real moral of the story is that “you need to get your big rocks in first, or all that other smaller ‘stuff’ gets in way too soon and takes up all the space.”
Indeed, it is quite true and really, a profound enlightenment concerning college student’s activity time management.

First, you need to identify your ‘big rocks’ – the things that matter to you the most. Of course, you could always squeeze in other minor activities along with your ‘big rock’ activities.

However, if you fail to point out your top priorities and always accomplish them first, then you will never have the chance to finish them out. This is because those other stuff you are doing will take up most of your time and drown your efforts for your top priority activities.

According to Covey, these are the Quadrant Two activities. Covey further reiterates that if you fail to spend time putting the most important goal in your life as the first thing in your college student activity schedule, then you will never get the chance to let your ‘big rock’ activity evolve and grow.

This kind of time management is also a means of self-management. In fact, these two concepts are the same things. College students must set priorities for themselves from number 1 or the most important thing they want out of life, up to the least important but significant little stuff they need to do that will support in their achievement of their most important goal.

Once you have listed down your ‘big rock’ goal or activity, then you must manage your college student activities – studies, researches, extra – curricular college activities, civic duties and socials, without ever straying far from your ultimate goal. Make sure that you do not end up doing everything but finish up with nothing.

Spend the time to reflect on your reasons for being in college and your reasons for involving yourself in other college student activities. Doing this cogitation helps you draw up the list of priorities you need to accomplish.

Always remember Covey and his big rocks, though. In listing down your priorities in life, always put in number one, your big rock activities.

Are you a high school or a college student? Are you burnt out or stressed out? Do you often feel about being run down and tired? Is your life spinning out of a disturbed way? Do you have too many priorities or pressures?

Student days are considered to be one of the busiest moments in our lives. Recitations, assignments, projects, and exams those are the things that make students feel exhausted. Aside from that, most of the students do not have enough time for their family anymore.

All their socializations, extra curricular activities and community interactions influence their time management. It seems that they always seem to be needed somewhere and some things are always needed to be done. If these students do not have any idea about budgeting their time and keeping a schedule, most probably their goals will not be accomplished in the precise time it is needed.

What are the common time/schedule problems that a student encounters? Most of the high school or college students find it hard to manage their studies, parties, work and sports. Aside from that, school and family pressure can also increase the student’s anxiety.

With the proper skills and right planning, it is possible to perform schoolwork together with some other things they need and want to do. Taking a proper control about the time is one of the most priceless skills a student must have.

There are many ways and helpful suggestions on how to manage a students time proficiently. To further discuss about time management, here are some list the benefits of time management.

• Time management can increase the students’ ability to cope up with their lessons. It can also give them several ways on how to have a concise schedule of their classes to maximize their study time.

• Aside from that, budgeting the time will allow the student to have enough time to prepare for each class. Time management can also distribute the time for each subject properly. For example, a student can still review his course notes before going to his next class. Having a little bit of time difference in between classes would allow you to move from one class to another without being late.

• Moreover, a student can use time management to make a master list of his plans for the period. Take note, every second counts. So as much as possible the student should consume their time in the most intelligent way.

• The time management can help the student to find a suitable time for their term exam. Note that every quiz, prelims, mid-term, finals, essay and short quizzes must have an allocated time for study and research to get a high rating.

• Most of the students learn flexibility. Because of concise planning of time, the student can fill in every allocated blank space of their daily and weekly task. An hour or two in between class can allow a student to clean his or her room or do some laundry. This way, the tasks don’t pile up.

• There are some students that find it hard to create and stick to a weekly schedule. For example, a schedule created for a certain day is interrupted by an unexpected meeting, as a result, the entire plan for the week is disrupted. A proper way of time planning and student time management can help students to cope up with these situations and still egt their tasks done for that week.

• Arrangement and preparation of the time can assist the students to set their personal priorities. The student will make its own decision regarding their responsibilities and provide a balance over a single area before proceeding to the next.

• Furthermore, correct time management maintains the student’s ability to plan ahead. By doing this, the student can avoid the rush and cramming in doing research papers, projects and studying for exams.

• Time management method can also increase the level of awareness of the students when it comes to studying lessons. The students become more responsive when it comes to their subjects and studies.

Most students have a hard time balancing their schedule especially if they work at the same time. One or the other may be sacrificed. But with a good working student time management, they can get good grades at school, earn some money and still have some time left to enjoy hanging out with their friends or enjoy a party or two.
