Is this an early onset of depression or is it just procrastination?

Condition:

>> I know there are things that are crucial that need to be completed, and its not like I dont have time but I almost freeze in the face of certain failure perhaps awaiting the worst to happen before things get better.

In most cases the tasks at hand are not even that difficult. Some examples:

1. finishing a single outstanding class to graduate
2. taking a simple drivers exam.
3. going to the GYM
4. Changing a simple expired registration sticker on my car (the new one is in my glove box)

Just incase you are wondering, I am a procrastinator, although I have great relationships, hold a steady job, am very well read. That’s what complicates things even more. WHy would this happen?

Any advice for this hopeless bastard. I need to know what steps, if any I should take before this gets worse?

Well, either you aren’t being challenged enough and lose interest, or you have a form of anxiety disorder. If you find yourself thinking into things more than you should, or you get sweaty palms when you think about things that cause you discomfort then it may be a possibility. Now, this isn’t necissarily the case, you may just need to kick yourself in the rear and force yourself to do these things whether you want to or not. I’d suggest telling yourself that you MUST do this, and that you’re not leaving until you do. Also don’t be nervous about it, chances are that you’ll succeed in the face of adversatie. Anyways, you should probably talk to a psycho-therapist, they could help you pin down what the problem is, and it may not take medication to fix. It could just be in the way you are looking at things. Remember, it’s not failing until you deside not try anymore!

yeah sometimes I have the same dilemmas. It doesn’t really matter what you call it but its maddening as hell. I think the mind becomes addicted to conflict and goes to the extreme of creating such if they are lacking. The real solution is to see thought for what it really can be- endless petty repetition, and to rely more on ones "heart" for guidance.
J. Krishnamurti had some comforting ideas on similar subjects…

I wouldn’t call it depression unless you have other symptoms, such as not wanting to do things you used to like doing. Withdrawing yourself from friends and family. Sleeping alot, etc. I’d say you are just a classic procrastinator, if you really want to change then just make yourself do these things you keep putting off. Once you complete them successfully and get the burden off your back, you may like how it makes you feel and you’ll stop putting things off!
